I cannot get my camera or microphone to work for the practice or final exam.

Integrity Advocate proctors our exams. First, verify your operating system, browser, and device meet their minimum requirements for full-screen monitoring.

Integrity Advocate say if you are not seeing a video feed in your browser, there may be a problem with the browser's permission to use your camera. To commence with the session, you need to allow the browser permission to use your camera and microphone on a new site. You can go to https://www.integrityadvocate.com/support/getting-started for instructions on how to do this for each browser.

If you still can't resolve the issue, this is what ChatGPT has to say when asked, "Why am I getting this Chrome browser error: There was an error with the recording permission_denied"

The "permission_denied" error in Google Chrome typically occurs when a web application or website is trying to access your device's microphone or camera, but it's unable to do so because the browser or the operating system has denied the necessary permissions. Here are some common reasons why you might encounter this error and steps to resolve it:

1. Permission Settings:

   • Check the website or application's permission settings. Ensure that it has been granted access to your microphone and camera. You can usually manage these settings by clicking on the padlock icon in the address bar (next to the website's URL) and adjusting the permissions there.

2. Extensions and Add-ons:

   • Browser extensions or add-ons can sometimes interfere with permissions. Try disabling or temporarily removing any extensions that might be causing conflicts. Test if the issue persists in an Incognito Mode window (which typically disables extensions).

3. Incognito Mode:

   • Try using Chrome's Incognito Mode to see if the issue is related to cached data or cookies. Sometimes, these can interfere with permissions.

4. Clear Browser Data:

   • Clear your browser's cache, cookies, and site data. Old data can sometimes lead to permission issues.

5. Browser Updates:

   • Ensure that your Chrome browser is up-to-date. Outdated browser versions can have bugs that affect permissions.

6. Operating System Permissions:

   • Make sure Chrome has the necessary permissions to access your microphone and camera at the operating system level. Check your system's settings to confirm this.

7. Restart the Browser:

   • Sometimes, simply restarting Chrome can resolve permission-related issues.

8. Check for Conflicting Applications:

   • Other applications running on your computer, such as video conferencing software, may interfere with microphone or camera permissions. Close any unnecessary applications and try again.

9. Test with Another Browser:

   • To determine if the issue is specific to Chrome, try using a different browser (e.g., Firefox, Edge) to see if you encounter the same problem.

10. Malware and Security Software:

    • Malware or security software may interfere with browser functionality. Ensure your computer is free from malware and that your security software is not overly restrictive.

11. Firewall Settings:

    • Check your computer's firewall settings to ensure they are not blocking Chrome's access to the microphone and camera.

12. Contact Website or Application Support:

    • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it could be specific to the website or application you're using. Contact their support for assistance.

Remember that the exact steps to adjust permissions or settings may vary depending on the website or application you're using, as well as your operating system. Always be cautious when granting permissions to websites and applications and ensure that you trust the source before allowing access to your microphone and camera.
